Summary module description:

The module aims to enable students to improve their skills in reading a range of Latin authors with fluency, and to develop appreciation of literary style. In addition, students will gain practice in the analysis of the literary texts studied. Students will also practise unseen translation.

The module aims to enable students to improve their skills in reading a range of Latin authors with fluency, and to develop appreciation of literary style. In addition, students will gain practice in the analysis of the literary texts studied. Students will also practise unseen translation.

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module it is expected that the student will be able to:
􀀕 translate lengthy prepared texts in Latin;
􀀕 translate a passage of Latin unseen;
􀀕 show an ability to analyse literary styles and structures.

Additional outcomes:
The module also encourages the development of skills in written communication and work in groups

Outline content:
The course meets for three hours each week. At least one hour per week will consolidate and extend grammatical knowledge and understanding, especially by work on unseen translation. Texts read may include Tacitus, Juvenal and Apuleius.

The module is conducted in seminars encouraging participation by students in translation and discussion
