Overview

Module aims and purpose

This module provides you will develop skills to get access to job opportunities and to progress in your professional career; by developing your recruitability (CV, cover letter, etc) and employability (interviews, etc.) skills you will be better prepared for placement and job opportunities.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of the module, it is expected that students will be able to:

1. Understand the careers and companies that exist within the food and nutritional science sector.
2. Produce and develop your CV, cover letter, professional images, etc. to demonstrate that you have a range of knowledge and skills that are transferable into a working environment.
3. Describe and recognise activities that cold offer you the opportunities to gain relevant work experience and skills.
4. Perform interviews and assessment centre techniques with confidence and enthusiasm.
5. Develop skills and a network of contacts in the professional sector that will boost your opportunities to find a job.

Module content

• Provide students with information about companies and roles that exist within the food and nutritional sector.
• Provide students training on recruitability skills (CV, cover letter, professional profile, etc.).
• Provide students with information about gaining work experience and networking.
• Provide students training on employability skills (interviews, assessment centres, etc).
• Preparing students and providing them with opportunities for networking (career fairs, etc).
• Prepare students for job hunting.
• Give students information on placement opportunities.
• Prepare students for the placement application process.
• Prepare students for their placement year.

Structure

Teaching and learning methods

Seminars are run to introduce new concepts and give general information.

During workshops student will work in the creation of their own material for job applications, searching for job opportunities or practicing for recruitment processes.

Small group and tutorial sessions will also take place for further advice. 

Study hours

At least 30 hours of scheduled teaching and learning activities will be delivered in person, with the remaining hours for scheduled and self-scheduled teaching and learning activities delivered either in person or online. You will receive further details about how these hours will be delivered before the start of the module.
