Getting involved

Each one of us has a responsibility and an obligation to work in a way that creates a welcoming and inclusive environment.

We do this through our behaviour with our colleagues, through the curriculum we offer, the fair and transparent way we make decisions, and by making sure our committees and decision-making groups have a diverse membership.

There are a variety of ways to get involved and make ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø a more inclusive environment for everyone. For example, you can visit our events page to see upcoming dates in our seminar series, or join a self-assessment team in the lead-up to a charter mark application.

If you have an idea or need some help, email our Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor Diversity and Inclusion at diversity@reading.ac.uk.

Call out bad behaviour

We've all witnessed unacceptable behaviour. Why not intervene? Call it out, offer support, or diffuse the situation.

Use the "UHT" method:

"I understand that you meant no harm by your comment, however, it is offensive to me or others. Therefore, I would appreciate it if you didn't do that again."

Watch Stonewall's , as well as the about bystander intervention, to learn more about why it's important to take action.
