AHRC Doctoral Landscape Awards
The ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø is pleased to have been awarded funding for doctoral studentships in the Arts and Humanities through the (AHRC) .
Background
The Doctoral Landscape Award is a new funding scheme from the AHRC. Subject to final approval from the AHRC in November 2025, the award will provide the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø with funding for 3 doctoral studentships per year from 2026-2030.
Doctoral Landscape Awards require that universities belong to regional training hubs. The ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø will be part of a Training Hub based in the South of England which will also include:
- The University of Brighton
- The University of Kent
- The Open University
- The University of Oxford
- Oxford Brookes University
- Royal Holloway, University of London
- The University of Southampton
- The University of Sussex
The scheme aims to attract applicants from a wide range of backgrounds.
Award Details
Studentships will be to commence in October 2026. They will cover fees at the UK/Republic of Ireland rate; a stipend (or living allowance); and additional funds to support research and training.
Eligibility
Applicants must have an offer of a place on an eligible PhD programme at the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø (AHRC subject areas are listed in the table below). Studentships can be held on a full or part-time basis. Up to 30% of awards can be made to International applicants, but International applicants will be required to fund the difference between Home and International fees.
How to apply
Detailed information on how to apply for these studentships will be available after the confirmation of the awards from the AHRC in November 2025.
All applicants for the studentships will be required to apply for a place on their chosen PhD programme. Anyone interested in applying for the studentships is therefore encouraged to apply for a place on a PhD programme as soon as possible.
The deadline by which to have applied for a place on a PhD programme in order to be considered for these studentships is likely to be in January 2026.
