How the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø shaped Manon’s career

Manon Veyssiere studied MA Communication Design at the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø. She graduated in 2020, specialising in book design. Now, with over six years' experience in the design industry, Manon has recently joined the team at The World of Interiors as a designer. Her role involves creating layouts for the print magazine and producing digital assets for social media.

Her journey from ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø to a professional career in publishing demonstrates how the skills, independence, and professional connections developed on the course can shape a confident path in design.

“The course made me realise that a career in book design was possible, and a reality. By meeting so many different designers and teachers, it showed me the different paths I could follow and make my own.”

Learning the craft

The MA in Communication Design emphasises both conceptual thinking and practical skill, providing students with a deep foundation in typography, layout, and book production. For Manon, this combination was invaluable.

“It taught me some valuable technical design skills that I was able to rely on when entering a workplace. Going the extra mile in knowing how to set up a file, how to make a text look good, how to use InDesign properly can be tedious, but it will take you very far.

Building confidence and connections that last

Our communication design programme encourages students to explore their own ideas and discover their strengths.

“The course leaves a lot of room for independence, which can be disorienting when you are not used to it, but it is a great opportunity to define what you want your career to look like and which areas of design you are the most attracted to.

"The connections I made during the course have been incredibly helpful and influential. Graphic design, and especially layout and book design, is a small world. Cultivating these relationships has made me feel like I could find my place in this industry.”

From ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø to the workplace

After graduating, Manon completed an internship at Thames & Hudson, gaining first-hand experience in large-scale publishing. She then spent four years as a designer at Fraser Muggeridge Studio, working across books, film titles, leaflets, and large-scale graphics.

“It was really helpful to get to work on so many different outputs early on in my career. It set me up with confidence and the skills to undertake any design task.”

Today, she applies her typographic and layout expertise to magazine design at The World of Interiors. The technical skills, creative independence, and network she developed at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø remain central to her practice.
