Knowledge Exchange

Infographic showing six knowledge exchange pathways: Collaborative Research, Contract Research, Consultancy, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), Intellectual Property & Commercialisation, and Partnering, each with an icon and brief description.

The Knowledge Exchange and External Partnerships team (KEEP, formally the KTC),  bridges the gap between the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø’s research and the commercial and business world. Knowledge Exchange (KE) activities can enable you to accelerate your research, generate significant REF impact and progress your career. We also look after the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø intellectual property portfolio.

We foster strong relationships with non-academic partners across the private and third sectors to encourage and support collaboration on KE initiatives. We provide resources and guidance to researchers to enable them to engage confidently in KE activities that ensure their research makes a real-world difference.

We can support you with the following activities:

  • securing collaborative funding for business and KE activities such as consultancy, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), contract research and bespoke UKRI funding calls
  • licensing and assignment of intellectual property (IP)
  • commercialisation activities including University spin outs
  • advising on KE and entrepreneurship and supporting businesses to engage with our Doctoral students.

The benefits KE activity can bring include:

  • access additional datasets and information for further research
  • build connections with businesses, communities and other organisations
  • get funding for research and students
  • generate personal income
  • creation of a new company or social enterprise.
