How do I apply to defer my undergraduate course?
You'll need to apply at the same time as if you were planning to go straight to university but should state in your UCAS application that you wish to be considered for deferred admission. Entry requirements for our courses remain the same for deferred and non-deferred entry.

We will review deferral requests based on course viability for the following year, and course change requests depending on availability and your eligibility.
What are the common eligibility criteria for deferring a university course?
Deferrals are decided on a case-by-case basis, and we may be in touch to discuss further information. Please be aware that you will still need to meet the conditions of your offer by the deadline set out in your offer letter.
For how long can I defer an undergraduate course in the UK?
Deferrals are typically granted for one year. If you need to defer for longer than this, please contact us to talk through your options.
What happens if I defer for a year and then need to defer for another year?
You can only defer once for a maximum of one year. Therefore, if you decide to wait another year to start university after your deferral, you’ll need to withdraw and start a completely new UCAS application.
Once complete, the deferral is final and confirmed. However, it is reversible up until enrolment at your request (subject to availability on the course, and providing that you still meet the requirements at the time of the request).
Is it better to apply now and defer if I get an offer, or just wait and apply next year?
The choice is up to you. However, you should check what support your school/college can give you if you want to apply after you have left.
Who can I speak to for advice on whether I should defer?
To discuss your deferral options, you can contact the admissions team by submitting an enquiry and we will be happy to talk you through the process.
